The Weavers Structure
Three layers, from a detailed knowledge substrate to full symbolic images — usable separately, together, and as a path
The Weavers is organised in three layers. Each can be used on its own or in combination, and together they allow a practitioner and an AI assistant to work both below and above the line — drawing on deep, consolidated knowledge while asking the questions conventional analysis does not reach. The layers also form a path: a fast, practical entry for anyone who wants to begin, and a deeper practice for those who go further.
Layer 1 — The Knowledge Substrate (below the line)
At its foundation, the Weavers is a knowledge substrate: a consolidated store of best practices, insights, key messages, principles, and policies — the knowledge and wisdom of practitioners and experts in a field. It is continually updated with what practical experience teaches: what works, and what does not. When AI is used to undertake reviews or support strategy, this layer provides a rich, curated knowledge base for the AI to draw on. In the Weavers, this material is held in Appendix 1.
Below the line is not lesser. It is the necessary foundation — the established knowledge every sound analysis stands on. The danger the Weavers addresses is not holding below-the-line knowledge, but being confined to it.
Layer 2 — Above the Line: Icons
The second layer is a symbolic register and language. It holds the meaning of Layer 1 without its detail, and it tells the AI how to use the symbolic register and symbolic language. Working with this layer enables the AI and the user to move above the line — to consider inversions, and the questions not generally asked — and it encourages the user to think above the line themselves. Layer 2 uses symbolic icons rather than full images.
Layer 2 exists for a practical reason: it is the fast, accessible entry point. Anyone wanting to create their own Weavers system — or a system developed using the Weavers as its basis — may not have the time, the inclination, or the skills to design complex symbolic images. Layers 1 and 2 together give them the full method without the design burden: a faster and easier way in, with the icons supplying the symbolic vocabulary ready-made. The Weavers itself includes the Layer 2 icons, though in practice it works at Layer 3.
Layer 3 — Above the Line: Images
The third layer works in a similar way to the second, but uses full symbolic images rather than icons. At first glance the two would seem to do the same job. In practice, the images lead to far greater innovative thinking and deeper insight. The AI can read an image — its structure, its composition, its symbolic relationships — and suggest new insights and inversions from what it finds there.
But the greater benefit comes from the design of the image itself. Designing a symbolic image demands focused, concentrated thinking about what really matters and how to depict it. Over time, new insights must be incorporated into the image, which drives in-depth reflection on the meaning of the symbols and the language — and that reflection produces further insight in turn. Creating your own images also captures a wealth and depth of personal experience in symbols and composition that no borrowed image can hold. The Weavers uses feedback loops to keep the registers and the images continually up to date, so the power of each symbol increases with use. This is what enables the AI to find inversions and relationships that conventional techniques do not normally reach.
| Using the layers The Weavers can be used at any of the three layers. It is common to work at Layer 3 while also drawing on the detail of Layer 1 — by asking the AI to consider the Weavers Appendix 1 alongside the image. The layers also form a natural progression: begin with the substrate and the icons; in time, design an image of your own — which is where the deepest benefit of the method lies. |

ARIA plays a key role in many of the Weavers’ supporting structures, particularly those relating to art and making. A typical question takes the form: “How would ARIA support this?” The ARIA image is the AI’s own image of ARIA, as described throughout the Weavers — in itself an illustration of AI working beyond its framings.
The three layers describe how the Weavers’ knowledge is held, from detailed substrate to symbolic image. The triadic architecture of a Threshold work — the Lexical Lattice, the Axiomatic Core, and the Regulatory Layer — describes the working parts of the system in use. The two descriptions are views of the same thing from different angles.
At every layer, the Weavers is used to raise questions for investigation — never to validate decisions.
